We had a great time leading the Early Read Parents Learning Community session at Jurong Regional Library this morning! Families turned up to listen to us read I Know A Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello, with Coco providing a deep "bellow" sound to go along with the story.
We introduced the parts of a cello and demonstrated the range of different sounds that a cello can make through bowing and plucking, with terms like arco, pizzicato, spiccato and vibrato. The parents and children were encouraged to speak, move and play games to explore different dynamics and tempos - all while inside the library!
We are heartened by the positive response from the families and librarians in the session, some of whom came up to give us compliments on helming such an engaging session. This is truly why we learn music - to be able to gift it to others.
NLB warmly welcomes parents who would like to contribute towards the Parents Learning Community. I think this is a wonderful way to introduce our children to volunteering and to share their talent and grow in the community.
Feel free to reach out to me if you would like to consider conducting a storytelling session and want to find out more.
